Geography

At Haltwhistle Primary Academy, we believe that Geography helps provoke and answer questions about the physical and human characteristics of our world. We seek to inspire our children with curiosity and fascination about the world, its people, which will remain with them for the rest of their lives; to promote children’s interest and understanding about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Looking at differences, patterns and seasonal changes including changes in the daily weather.

Geography teaches children about their immediate local area of Haltwhistle, and encourages them to develop skills to compare their lives with others in different regions in the United Kingdom. This allows children to develop a greater understanding of the wider world and their own personal significance within it.

Exploring the local area of Haltwhistle and using this to enhance their locational and place knowledge.

Geography helps children develop a range of investigation and problem-solving skills that are transferable to a range of other curriculum areas, which can be used to promote children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. In our diverse society children need, more than ever before, to understand other people and cultures. Geography is, by nature an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills, which is essential for life skills.
